Manifesto:
I was thinking of what I could do with the IceMelting app and first I wanted to make my own waves. As I was designing my waves, they reminded me of this Viking game I used to play when i was little and decided to make my app a viking theme. I created my own ship and character called Erik the Viking. I wanted my project to have an intro scene, an instructions scene, and then the actual game/app. In the intro, I decided to make my waves move, while my ship sailed across them with Erik on it. In the instructions, I just explained what to do with the game and how it worked. In the game, I changed the original waves, and added my own and made them transparent. Also, instead of the original statue of liberty background, I created my own using Photoshop and I created a castle as the scale factor marker.
Math:
The math in this game is helps explain units of measure. Rather than using feet as we Americans do, I decided to use meters. There is some percentage involved, making it show how much the water will rise IF the ice melts. I used the same height of the statue of liberty (93m) for my castle, that way people would have a scale and an idea of what things would look like. I also found out the year that vikings were around, which was 790 A.D..
Programming:
I changed the programming in this app a fair amount. First, I removed the old waves and added my own. I created a new movie clip and changed the instance name, then changed the name in the code and the actions window. I also added buttons so you can go from the intro, to the instructions, to the game. This didn't involve too much coding. I only needed to create a button, then addEventListener and then make it gotoAndPlay on frame two, which was where my instructions scene was. Then I repeated the process using the same button, but changing the instance name, and instead of making it go to frame two, I made it go to frame 3, where my game was.
Art:
I really had a lot of fun with the art in this. I designed everything. I made my own "Welsh" background. I made the sky a sort of grayish to make it seem cloudy and rainy. I added trees on the hills. I made the background VERY green because it rains a lot in that region and everything is beautiful and green. I created my own viking ship and my own viking. I did this half on Photoshop, half on Flash. The drawing tablet helped unbelievably. I don't think my app would look HALF as good if I hadn't used it. It was EXTREMELY helpful. As I said before, I made my own waves. I drew my own castle for the scale factor also.

Day 10: CU Digital Currents
Today and Day 8 were my favorite days. On day 8 we went to ITLL which was REALLY cool! they had all sorts of gadgets and interesting things. Then we had lunch which was really delicious. After lunch, we played Ultimate Frisbee, which is my favorite sport so that was really fun.
Today was definitely my favorite though. We pretty much just worked on our projects in art. We learned how to add sound effects to our projects. I got a lot done today.
In math, we finally got to do our outdoor experiment which was cool. I'd done it on paper, but not actually outside trying to measure something. It checked out pretty well, it was definitely legit.
LUNCH WAS THE BESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVED THE SINK!
it was so delicious! afterwards, we walked up on the hill and went into a really cool interesting shop called "meow meow" which was awesome. then after that we played an AWESOME game of ultimate frisbee!!

Day 7: CU Digital Currents
Today was way better than yesterday.
First, I made a really cool picture in flash. I made some pretty cool clouds and some red rocks.
Second, in math, we figured out what the equation for population growth was, that was cool
Then we had lunch at the libby which was good.
Programming was WAY better. I figured out that problem that was wrong yesterday. And i also finished both apps today.
Day 6: CU Digital Currents
UGH! Today my probability assignment wasn't working. There was error after error after error! I was getting really mad! The worst part is, is that it's still not done, it STILL says there are errors. I even deleted all of the coding involved and copied and pasted straight from the website. If I don't figure this out by the end of the week, I'm not going to finish it.

Day 5: CU Digital Currents
Today was really fun.
First, in art, I learned how to create a knol. We touched over making blogs, and editing your profile, but I already knew how to do that.

Second, math was really really fun today. I really enjoyed doing the labs. I really like Ryan and I think he's a great teacher. He's actually teaching us real-life stuff and he makes it funner.
Then we went to lunch, which was very delicious and relaxing. After that, I finished all of the Flash labs that I hadn't saved, or that weren't finished. I feel really accomplished.
